Lecturing at Myerscough College – Understanding Working Dogs module on the Game Keeping Course.

I have been given the great opportunity to lecturer at Mysercough College running the gundog/working dog module of the Game Keeping Course.  Today was my first day meeting all the pupil and start of a great new journey.  Mysercough college has a fantastic new Rural Skills Centre built 2 years ago that offer the best facilities for teaching game keeping.

The shooting grounds and training grounds offer me great facilities to run the course.  I will be covering all aspects of gundog training with key areas being;

  • Be able to Identify the most common breeds and types of working dogs and their suitability for countryside management.
  • Know how to plan a structured training programme for working dogs.
  • Understand the health and first aid issues that can affect working dogs.
  • Understand the housing requirements for a specific breed of working dogs.

Lecturing at Mysercough college is great, training grounds can be used for my clients, I will be looking to bring in specialist people for specific training modules.  I will be using my dogs and clients dogs to help the students practical assessments.

Lecturing the gundog course will help offer more facilities and experiences to my clients and their dogs.
